Pages and accounts on social media circulated a video claiming to document the targeting of Syrian army members during the Sweida events in July 2025, attaching it to a phrase describing it as part of the pig-hunting campaign.
The fact-checking team traced the circulating clip by breaking it into still frames, running a reverse image search on the scenes, and comparing circulating versions, and found that the clip had been published since 2013 and documents clashes between the Free Syrian Army and the former regime's forces at the time, with no connection to the recent Sweida events.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal and geographic context: The claim relied on recycling old visual content dating to 2013, removing it from its temporal and factual context and attributing it to events it has nothing to do with, in order to mislead viewers about the nature of the clip.
