Accounts on social media circulated a video, claimed to be recent, purporting to show a person inside the Umayyad Mosque in the city of Damascus placing an ISIS badge on his shoulder.

The fact-checking team traced the circulating video by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse image search, and found that the clip had been published and circulating since March 15, 2025, and was not recent as its publishers claimed. The clip was therefore recirculated recently out of its correct temporal context.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of temporal context: The claim relied on presenting an old clip dating to March 2025 as a recent incident, in order to suggest a current event inside the Umayyad Mosque and drive engagement around it.
