Pages on social media circulated a video of a girl dancing at a public event, claiming it showed the daughter of Syrian People's Assembly member Hassan al-Daghim, who they said lives in Sweden, implying that while others endure hard conditions his family lives differently.
The Kashaf team conducted a field inquiry that included directly contacting activists from the town of Jarjanaz, the birthplace of al-Daghim, who said he has a single son named Bakr living with him in Damascus, along with daughters from his late first wife, all residing with him in the capital, with none of them in Sweden or any European country and no link between any of them and the circulated clip or the girl appearing in it. The activists also explained that al-Daghim only left the country to Turkey before returning in 2019 to northern Syria, where he stayed in a camp in the city of Azaz, then moved with his family to Damascus after liberation. Through verification, the team reached the original video owner, Safa Baaj, via her Instagram account _s1fab, where she posts personal content.
Why is this claim misleading?
An error in identity attribution: The claim attributed a clip unrelated to the family of Hassan al-Daghim to his supposed daughter, deploying it in a context with no factual basis in order to smear and cast doubt.
