Accounts on social media circulated a video showing scattered garbage and grazing livestock in a street, claiming it documented the current reality of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The Kashaf team traced the clip through a reverse image search and found it had been published on other accounts on 13 July 2026, documenting a scene from the city of al-Hasakah, not the capital Damascus as claimed. Digital analysis and geographic tracking turned up nothing linking the scene to Damascus, which refutes its attribution to the city.
Why is this claim misleading?
Out of geographic context: The claim relied on a clip filmed in al-Hasakah and attributed it to the capital Damascus, to suggest the capital had deteriorated and to mislead viewers about its current state.
