Pages on social media circulated a report claiming that a speeding car deliberately hit a security member at the Harasta checkpoint on the northern entrance of Damascus, causing his immediate death.
The Kashaf team conducted a field inquiry by contacting sources familiar with the circumstances of the incident, and found that the driver suffered a sudden heart attack while driving, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle and led to the accident. The sources stated that the driver died as a result of the heart attack before the collision.
Why is this claim misleading?
Inaccurate interpretation: The incident was presented as a deliberate ramming targeting a security member, whereas the field inquiry showed that its cause was a sudden heart attack that struck the driver, contradicting the circulating account of what actually happened.
