Accounts on social media circulated a video claiming it documented Dr. Lara Fathi Qadid, a member of the Syrian People's Assembly appointed for Aleppo province, describing revolutionaries as militants and praising the former Syrian regime.
The fact-checking team ran a visual comparison between the circulating clip and verified photos and videos of Dr. Lara Fathi Qadid on her official accounts and platforms, and found that the woman in the clip does not match Qadid, who appears without a headscarf in all her visual material, unlike the woman in the circulating clip. The verification also showed, according to multiple media sources, that Lara Qadid is a Christian of the Catholic denomination, head of the private Cordoba University, and was appointed among the completing third of the People's Assembly members.
Why is this claim misleading?
