The truth about claims of new armored vehicles arriving for the Syrian army

Pages and accounts on social media shared a video of a military convoy carrying military vehicles, claiming it documents the recent arrival of new armored vehicles for the Syrian army as part of a rehabilitation plan.

The fact-checking team examined the circulating clip, broke it into still frames for a reverse image search, and found that the footage is old and was published in an earlier time frame. The digital search results showed that the video was first posted on social media on 27 January 2026 under the title “The Syrian army added a large number of new armored vehicles to its fleet.” The team cross-referenced this publication date with open news records, which conclusively confirmed that the scenes belong to an earlier event announced at the start of the year, not to a new shipment of armored vehicles arriving recently.

Why is this claim misleading?

Out of temporal context: The claim relied on lifting an old video from January 2026 and reposting it in June of the same year to mislead the public into believing there is a recent and ongoing arrival of new military reinforcements and armored vehicles for the Syrian army.
