The truth about claims of massive military convoys heading to Hama

Pages and accounts across social media platforms shared a video claiming it shows Ministry of Defense forces sending massive military convoys to the city of Hama and its countryside, against the backdrop of night protests denouncing rising fuel and food prices.

The circulating clip was examined by breaking it into still frames and running a reverse image search using Google Lens, which revealed that the footage is old and dates back to Syrian military reinforcements heading toward the Lebanese border on 17 March 2025. The fact-checking team also confirmed this through geolocation analysis of the scenes and cross-referencing them with open-source tools, where the landmarks and military vehicles in the video matched the older location exactly.

Why is this claim misleading?

Out of temporal and geographic context: The claim relied on an old 2025 video showing military movements toward the Lebanese border, repurposing and broadcasting it in a different temporal and geographic context to imply recent military convoys heading toward the city of Hama and its countryside.
