Pages on social media platforms circulated an image that their posters claimed documents the moment of the arrest of a woman named “Hala Qasim,” against the backdrop of her publishing a video clip described as provocative and inciting in the Al-Qusayr area in the Homs countryside.
The Kashaf platform team contacted a source in the Internal Security Command in Homs Governorate to verify the facts of the incident. The source confirmed that the owner of the video clip had indeed been detained for violating legal regulations, but that her real name is “Hala Al-Jasim” and not “Hala Qasim” as the posts promoted. In a related context, the team conducted a technical examination of the circulated image attached to the claim, and it became clear that it is not real and does not document the incident; rather, it was entirely generated and edited using artificial intelligence techniques.
Why is this claim misleading?
Inaccurate Name and a Fake Image: The circulated posts combined an incorrect name for the detainee with an entirely fabricated image created through artificial intelligence tools, and the image has no connection to any official detention procedures that took place on the ground.
