Accounts on social media circulated a video of activist Hanan Maarouf, with its publishers claiming she announces the Syrian government’s approval of granting independence to Suwayda governorate under the name of the “Bashan region.”
Kashaf’s team examined the circulating clip and conducted a full review of the original video posted on her accounts. It turned out the video was deliberately cut to take her remarks out of their real context. In the same video, the activist states unequivocally that everything she presented and attributed to informed sources is not actual fact, but a hypothetical scenario she drafted to open the door to discussion and political debate about possible solutions — warning against clipping her remarks to falsify the facts.
Why is this claim misleading?
