Accounts and pages on social media circulated a video filmed from inside an aircraft cockpit, with its publishers claiming it documents an attack helicopter of the Syrian Air Force targeting “remnants of the ousted regime” during field military operations.
Kashaf’s team traced the circulating video by breaking it down into still frames and running a careful reverse-image search to determine its origin and geographic context. The results showed that the clip was used entirely out of context and has no connection to Syria or the Syrian Air Force: the video originally documents operations carried out by the Ukrainian Air Force, and it was previously posted on social media on May 13, 2026, before being clipped and falsely attributed to events in Syria to mislead audiences.
Why is this claim misleading?
Outside its geographic and military context: A video documenting military activity by the Ukrainian Air Force was exploited and republished with a false claim linking it to the Syrian Air Force, spreading inaccurate information about the situation on the ground.
