Accounts and pages on social media circulated a claim that the United Nations, together with a body called the “International Council”, intends to create an independent region in Syria named Ugarit, led by Ghazal Ghazal.
Kashaf’s team traced the circulating claim through advanced keyword searches across open sources, including a review of the official United Nations website and local and international media platforms. The results showed the claim is entirely fabricated and has no basis in fact: neither the United Nations nor any of its agencies has issued any decision or statement on the matter, and no officially recognized international organization or body called the “International Council” exists.
